10 Effective Natural Remedies To Treat Pancreatic Cancer

Are you taking treatment for pancreatic cancer? Or do you just want to prevent yourself from becoming its victim? Whatever it is, in today’s polluted world and environment, arming ourselves against deadly diseases like cancer is a must.

And pancreatic cancer is one of the most virulent forms of cancer. What makes it so devastating is its ability to go undetectable, showing no symptoms. So, unless you prepare and shield yourself, you might not escape from its clutches.

Are there any home remedies that can help prevent pancreatic cancer? Yes, there are! And if you want to know more about pancreatic cancer and the home remedies that can help prevent it, then this post is a must-read for you!

What Causes Pancreatic Cancer?

Pancreatic cancer can be caused by a multitude of reasons. The causes of pancreatic cancer remain shrouded in mystery. However, there are certain habits that can increase your chances of contracting the disease, like smoking or chewing tobacco. If you suffer from frequent pancreatic disorders, you are more likely to contract pancreatic cancer.

Although none of these remedies are permanent cures, some pancreatic cancer natural remedies include:

1. Broccoli:

This cruciferous vegetable is an effective remedy for pancreatic cancer. It contains many antioxidants that eliminate carcinogenic free radicals. It is also rich in phytochemicals that also attack cancer cells. Broccoli is also a great detoxifier for the blood (1).

2. Red Grapes:

Grapes, specifically red ones, help provide relief from many pancreatic disorders, most notably, pancreatitis. Grapes also contain proanthocyanidins. The proanthocyanidins help reduce estrogen production and help cure diseases like pancreatic cancer and lung cancer (2).

3. Green Tea:

Green Tea has long been mooted as one of the most popular natural remedies. Green tea is entirely herbal and is crammed with antioxidants that have free radical killing characteristics. Having a cup of green tea daily can help cure pancreatic cancer. An independent study in Japan found that people who had around three cups of green tea daily had a reduced risk of contracting pancreatic cancer (3).

4. Aloe Vera:

Aloe Vera is one of the most soothing plants. It is especially good for inflammatory disorders and it also helps relieve pancreatic and prostate cancer. Have fresh Aloe Vera gel once daily to keep pancreatic cancer in check (4).

5. Fresh Fruit Juice:

Drinking fresh fruit juice can be quite beneficial for you, if you suffer from cancer. Fresh fruit juices contain many essential vitamins and minerals that help fight cancer and prevent it as well. Typically, apples, cherries, mangoes, oranges are the most beneficial fruits for you. Juices also help boost your immunity and taste great as well. They have antioxidants that attack carcinogenic free radicals and pathogens (5).

6. Lycopene:

Lycopene is the best natural remedy for pancreatic cancer. Lycopene is commonly found in watermelons, apricots and guavas. Lycopene is especially effective on stomach and pancreatic cancers and you should consider consuming lycopene rich fruits daily to prevent and treat pancreatic cancer (6).

7. Soya Bean:

Soya bean inhibits the cancerous cells from utilizing estrogen. It has been known to be extremely effective in fighting cancer. You should eat soya bean sprouts or cook soya bean to prevent and cure pancreatic and breast cancer. Soya bean is rich in anticarcinogenic enzymes (7).

8. Ginseng:

Ginseng is one of the most undermined herbs. It is known to increase immunity and help treat pancreatic cancer. It is one of the best natural remedies for pancreatic cancer (8).

9. Maitake Mushroom:

These mushrooms have been proved to be useful in the treatment of pancreatic cancer. Maitake mushrooms not only help reduce and ease the violent troubles caused by radiotherapy and chemotherapy, but also help improve the efficacy of chemotherapy (9).

10. Wheatgrass:

Another naturally occurring herb, wheatgrass is one of the best pancreatic cancer home remedies. It stops the development of the cancerous cells. Wheatgrass has also been known to boost our immunity and remove toxins from our body (10).

Remember that these are home remedies and cancer treatments cannot be substituted with these. The ideal thing to do is use these pancreatic cancer natural remedies along with your cancer treatment.

More magnesium may lower risk of pancreatic cancer

Magnesium intake may be an effective way to prevent pancreatic cancer, a new study suggests.

Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer-related death in both men and women in the United States. The overall occurrence of pancreatic cancer has not significantly changed since 2002, but the mortality rate has increased annually from 2002 to 2011, according to the National Cancer Institute.

“Pancreatic cancer is really unique and different from other cancers,” says Ka He, chair of the epidemiology and biostatistics department at Indiana University. “The five-year survival rate is really low, so that makes prevention and identifying risk factors or predictors associated with pancreatic cancer very important.”

Previous studies have found that magnesium is inversely associated with the risk of diabetes, which is a risk factor of pancreatic cancer. But few studies have explored the direct association of magnesium with pancreatic cancer and those that did had inconclusive findings, says lead author Daniel Dibaba, a PhD student in the School of Public Health.

Using information from the VITamins and Lifestyle study, the researchers analyzed an enormous trove of data on more than 66,000 men and women, ages 50 to 76, looking at the direct association between magnesium and pancreatic cancer and whether age, gender, body mass index, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs use, and magnesium supplementation play a role.

Of those followed, 151 participants developed pancreatic cancer. Every 100-milligrams-per-day decrease in magnesium intake was associated with a 24 percent increase in the occurrence of pancreatic cancer.

The study, published in the British Journal of Cancer, also found that the effects of magnesium on pancreatic cancer did not appear to be modified by age, gender, body mass index, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug use, but was limited to those taking magnesium supplements either from a multivitamin or individual supplement.

“For those at a higher risk of pancreatic cancer, adding a magnesium supplement to their diet may prove beneficial in preventing this disease,” Dibaba says.

“While more study is needed, the general population should strive to get the daily recommendations of magnesium through diet, such as dark, leafy greens or nuts, to prevent any risk of pancreatic cancer.”

Other researchers from Indiana University and from the University of Washington, and the Jikei University School of Medicine in Tokyo contributed to the study.

Spicy Condiment Fights #PanCAN w/ Accuracy

wasabi-ft1

If you love to eat sushi, and particularly the green mustard with a kick which comes with most Japanese dishes – wasabi – then you could very well be fighting one of the most deadly types of pancreatic cancers around.

Otherwise known as Japanese horseradish, wasabi has been shown to kill human pancreatic cancer cells with accuracy. Specifically, the active compounds of wasabi:

“. . .showed that compounds 6-MITC and I7557, but not I7447, inhibited viability of both PANC-1 and BxPC-3 cells. Morphological observation showed mitotic arrest and apoptosis in 6-MITC- and I7557-treated cells. These two compounds induced G2/M phase arrest and hypoploid population. Percentages of ALDH-positive PANC-1 cells were markedly reduced by 6-MITC and I7557 treatment. The expression of CSC signaling molecule SOX2, but not NOTCH1, ABCG2, Sonic hedgehog, or OCT4, was inhibited by 6-MITC and I7557. In conclusion, wasabi compounds 6-MITC and I7557 may possess activity against the growth and CSC phenotypes of human pancreatic cancer cells.”

In other words, when you eat wasabi, you are protecting your body and prohibiting the creation of pancreatic cancer cells from forming.

Effects of Turmeric Curcumin on PanCan Patients

turmeric

A 2010 article published in Oncology Reports states pancreatic cancer is among the most aggressive forms of human cancer, characterized by a very high mortality rate. It represents the fourth leading cause of cancer death in United States, killing 32,000 people annually. With a 5-year survival rate of only 3 percent and a median survival rate of less than six months, pancreatic cancer carries one of the poorest prognoses. The diagnosis of pancreatic cancer is one of the worst things a doctor ever has to tell a patient. The only FDA-approved therapies for it, Gemcitabine and Erlotinib, produce objective responses in less than 10 percent of patients, while causing severe side-effects in the majority. There is a desperate need for new options.

Clinical research to test new treatments is split into phases. Phase I trials are just to make sure the treatment is safe, to see how much you can give before it becomes toxic. Curcumin, the natural yellow pigment in the spice turmeric has passed a number of those. In fact, there was so little toxicity, the dosing was limited only by the number of pills patients were willing to swallow.

Phase II trials are conducted to see if the drug actually has an effect. Curcumin did, in 2 of the 21 patients that were evaluated. One patient had a 73 percent tumor reduction, but the effect was short-lived. One lesion remained small, but a curcumin-resistant tumor clone emerged. The other patient, who had a stable disease for over 18 months, showed slow improvement over a year. In fact, the only time that patient’s cancer markers bumped up was during a brief three-week stint where the curcumin was stopped.

So curcumin does seem to help some patients with pancreatic cancer, and most importantly, there appears to be little downside. No curcumin-related toxic effects were observed in up to doses of eight grams per day. What happens after eight grams? We don’t know because no one was willing to take that many pills. The patients were willing to go on one of the nastiest chemotherapy regimens on the planet, but didn’t want to be inconvenienced with swallowing a lot of capsules.

Ginger May Be Stronger Than Chemo?

1112677477

Cancer is one of humankind’s greatest modern scourges. We subject ourselves to horrifically toxic treatments to try to stem its assault, but it still claims millions of victims every year. However, there are several studies that have shown that an all-natural remedy made of ginger root could be more effective against certain types of cancer than more harmful interventions like chemotherapy and radiation.

In 2007, the BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine published a study that demonstrated ginger’s ability to combat ovarian cancer, which is the most deadly cancer of the female reproductive system, according to the American Cancer Society. The ginger works by blocking the cancer from growing, limiting its ability to spread.

“Ginger inhibits growth and modulates secretion of angiogenic factors in ovarian cancer cells,” the study states. “The use of dietary agents such as ginger may have potential in the treatment and prevention of ovarian cancer.”

Another study from the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center discovered an even more promising effect — ginger actually caused the death of ovarian cancer cells in a lab. The breakthrough could be truly groundbreaking, since cancer that is treated with chemo has a tendency to recur and can build up resistance to it over time. If ginger can kill the cancer outright, that’s a far better solution.

Then, a study published in the British Journal of Nutrition in 2012 found that ginger also shows extraordinary effects against prostrate cancer, which will afflict one in six men in the United States.

“Whole ginger extract (GE) exerts significant growth-inhibitory and death-inductory effects in a spectrum of prostate cancer cells,” the study states. “Comprehensive studies have confirmed that GE perturbed cell-cycle progression, impaired reproductive capacity, modulated cell-cycle and apoptosis regulatory molecules and induced a caspase-driven, mitochondrially mediated apoptosis in human prostate cancer cells.”

In other words, the ginger actually tricks the cancer cells into killing themselves. As a result, it shrank prostate tumors by an average of 56 percent.

Could Bitter Melon Help In The Difficult Battle Against Pancreatic Cancer?

Bitter-Melon

Bitter melon or Momordica charantia is a plant that grows extensively across many areas of Africa, Asia and the Caribbean. It comes in many varieties, each producing wartly, oblong fruit known for it’s extremely bitter taste. Around 32 active chemicals have been identified in the juice of bitter melon to date, including beta-sitosterol-d-glucoside, citrulline, GABA, lutein, lycopene and zeaxanthin. They are also a great source of vitamins and minerals, with, 100 grams of bitter melon containing calcium (19 mg), carbohydrates (4 g), copper (0.034 mg), dietary fiber (3 g), dietary folate (72 mcg), folate (72 mcg), food folate (5.6 mcg), iron (0.43 mg), magnesium (17 mg), manganese (0.089 mg), Pantothenic Acid (0.212 mcg), phosphorus (31 mg), potassium ( 296 mg), protein (1 g), selenium (0.2 mcg), sodium (5 mg), Vitamins A, B, C, E, K, and zinc (0.8 mg).

Also, the USDA National Nutrient database states that, 100 grams of bitter melon contains 17 Kcal of energy, 0.17g total fat, niacin (0.400 mg), pyridoxine (0.043 g), Riboflavin (0.040 mg), and Thiamin (0.040 mg).

Natural Remedies

Bitter melon has long been used as a natural remedy for fever, burns, chronic coughs, painful menstrual cramps and minor skin conditions, with some areas claiming that it can prevent and treat malaria. But more recently it has been found to have a positive affect on the regulation of insulin, which could be promising to advance the treatments of both diabetes and pancreatic cancer.

Pancreatic cancer is notoriously difficult to treat, partly because it is often discovered later than other forms of cancer. Prognosis of pancreatic cancer is extremely poor, suggesting critical needs for additional drugs to improve disease outcome. Traditional treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy are not often particularly successful in treating this type of cancer. This has led scientists to look elsewhere for therapies that can assist in the fight against pancreatic cancer.

IV Vitamin C Doubles Survival Time of Pancreatic Cancer Patients

IV-Vitamin-C

A small Phase I clinical trial in the USA has just shown that adding IV (intravenous) vitamin C to gemcitabine, a common chemo drug for pancreatic cancer extended patients’ average survival time to 12 months, compared to historical survival times of 5.65 months for such patients. More remarkable is that three of the patients were still alive at the end of the trial (two at 15 months, one at 29 months survival time) which means overall survival could further increase.

Phase I trial to test IV vitamin C together with standard chemo

Pancreatic cancer strikes 44,000 Americans every year and is the fourth leading cause of cancer-related death in the USA. Despite conventional medicine’s best efforts, the mortality rate of pancreatic cancer remains tragically high at 80 percent in the first year after diagnosis. Because of this, doctors have started looking to complementary, natural treatments as a means of improving patients’ prognosis—and IV vitamin C has now done exactly that with remarkable, clinically demonstrated results.

Doctors at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine ran a Phase I study in which 50 to 125 grams of vitamin C were infused into patients once per week on a weekly cycle. Gemcitabine, a standard chemo drug for pancreatic cancer, was also administered on a weekly cycle as per normal. The average treatment duration was six months (range: 60 to 556 days) during which patients lost an average of only five kilograms, which is much less than expected. Side effects of the IV vitamin C treatment were generally mild and included diarrhea and dry mouth. Apart from increasing survival time to 12 months, the IV vitamin C therapy also increased progression-free survival to 26 weeks (12.7 weeks have been reported in other trials). The researchers did not report on overall tumor size development except for one patient who experienced a dramatic nine-fold reduction in the size of the primary tumor after four months of treatment.
